The Silent Valley

Winter Wonderland

Experience Kashmir in its most ethereal form. From the powder slopes of Gulmarg to the frozen silence of the Dal Lake.

Winter Survival & Logistics

Traveling to Kashmir in winter (December to February) is a magical experience, but it requires specialized preparation. Unlike the summer months, winter logistics are about ensuring safety and warmth without compromising on the view.

Anti-Skid Mobility

The road to Gulmarg and Sonmarg can be treacherous after a heavy snowfall. For all our Kashmir winter tours, we use 4x4 vehicles or ensure our SUVs are equipped with heavy-duty anti-skid chains to ensure your safety on the icy slopes.

Central Heating & Bukharis

We only partner with luxury and boutique properties that offer reliable central heating, high-end electric blankets, and authentic wood-burning 'Bukharis' (Kashmiri stoves) to keep the sub-zero chill at bay.

The Winter Palate

In the heart of winter, Kashmiri food shifts from the elaborate Wazwan to hearty, warming soul foods. This is the only time of the year when you can experience 'Harissa'—a slow-cooked lamb and rice porridge that is a labor of love, served only in the early morning hours.

Harissa Culture

Waking up at 6 AM to get the fresh Harissa from a local vendor in the old city is a true winter ritual.

Nun Chai & Kulcha

Pink salt tea paired with a crisp Kashmiri Kulcha is the fuel that keeps the valley going through the snow.

Dried Vegetables (Hokh Syun)

Taste the unique flavors of sun-dried lotus stems and brinjals, a tradition dating back centuries.

Beyond the Snowball Fights

Pheran Styling

The iconic Kashmiri winter cloak. We can arrange for you to get a custom-tailored Pheran with intricate Tilla embroidery.

Ice Skating

When the temperatures drop, natural ice rinks form in Gulmarg. Experience the thrill of skating under the Himalayan stars.

Kangri Workshops

Learn how to make the traditional wicker-encased clay fire-pot that locals carry inside their cloaks.

Photography Expeditions

Our specialized winter photography tours focus on capturing the 'Chiaroscuro' of winter light against the snow.

The Magic of a Winter Houseboat

Many travelers avoid houseboats in winter, thinking they'll be cold. Our curated houseboats on Nigeen Lake are equipped with modern insulation and central heating systems. Waking up to a frozen Dal Lake is the pinnacle of the Kashmir winter experience.

Winter Intelligence

Is it safe to travel to Kashmir during heavy snowfall?

Yes, as long as you are with an experienced local partner. We monitor the weather in real-time and use snow chains when necessary.

What kind of clothes should I pack?

Think in layers. Thermals are a must. Bring a heavy down jacket, waterproof boots with good grip, gloves, and woolen caps.

Can we do a Shikara ride in winter?

Absolutely. The Shikaras are covered with plastic sheets for warmth, and you'll be given a 'Kangri' (fire-pot) to keep you cozy.

Are there frequent power cuts in winter?

While the valley does face power issues, all our partner luxury hotels have heavy-duty generators to ensure your comfort is not interrupted.
